What is an ETT test?
An ETT test records the electrical activity of the heart during exercise. During exercise, the patient’s blood pressure, heart rate, and breathing are monitored. It is most effective for those who feel chest pain with exertion, which, if left undiagnosed, could lead to serious conditions such as a heart attack. This test is also used to determine whether exercise can cause irregular cardiac rhythms. Many cardiologists recommend the ETT for the heart to detect coronary heart disease. The narrowing of heart arteries restricts proper blood flow, and the resulting chest pain is known as angina.
Doctors sometimes administer specific medications to patients to increase their heart rate and breathing for testing purposes. This is because many patients with coronary heart disease show a normal ECG at rest. During activity, the heart beats quicker and requires more oxygen. So, if one or more coronary arteries become narrowed, blood flow is reduced in the heart muscle, which means some parts of the heart may not get enough oxygen. This can cause the ECG to become irregular during exercise. A positive ETT result suggests an increased likelihood of coronary artery disease (CAD) or reduced blood flow to the heart.
In patients with known coronary heart disease, the degree of abnormalities on the ECG trace from the ETT can indicate the severity of the condition.
The test usually takes only 15-20 minutes. For the convenience of our patients, we have both male and female cardiologists available. We aim to make our patients’ testing experience comfortable and stress-free.
ETT at Al-Nasar Lab & Diagnostic Centre
Al-Nasar Lab & Diagnostic Centre has conducted thousands of ETT tests in Lahore with 100% patient
satisfaction. Our lab utilises the latest ECG machines for testing, ensuring accurate and reliable results. The ETT cardiac test is performed under the supervision of fully trained medical personnel.
The Procedure For The ETT Test
We recommend a small meal before the test. Before we begin the treatment, our staff will make sure you are comfortable and relaxed.
Small electrodes will then be softly applied to your chest to monitor the electrical activity of the heart. Our lab provides a nice exercise facility where the test is usually performed on a treadmill.
During the test, the treadmill speed is gradually increased to safely examine your heart’s stress tolerance. If you can’t exercise, drugs can be used to mimic the effects of physical activity.
Throughout the exam, a cardiologist closely monitors your heart’s activity on the ECG screen. You will be asked to stop once the essential data has been collected or if you are uncomfortable.
Following the exam, our cardiology experts will ensure that you are feeling well before you depart. Your safety and comfort are our priority.
The test usually takes only 15-20 minutes. For the convenience of our patients, we have both male and female cardiologists available. We aim to make our patient’s testing experience comfortable and stress-free.
The report is generally available within 24 hours.

Types of ETTs We Offer
Al-Nasar Lab & Diagnostic Centre specialises in the following ETT tests in Lahore:
Standard Exercise Tolerance Test
This ETT test is a basic approach to monitoring the heart’s activity during exercise. The patient exercises by running on a treadmill or riding a bike. Doctors monitor the patient’s breathing and heart rate rhythms during exercise to evaluate their overall cardiac health. This test helps diagnose coronary artery disease effectively.
Stress Echocardiogram
This test combines an exercise stress test with ultrasound imaging to show the structural pictures of the heart under stress. Doctors chiefly perform a stress echocardiogram test to evaluate the heart’s structure, size, and function during exercise. Stress echocardiograms generally detect structural abnormalities.
Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram
Doctors recommend this ETT test for patients who cannot exercise effectively due to unusual chest pain or shortness of breath. They use dobutamine to increase heart rate and blood flow, imitating the effects of exercise, and then use ultrasound to do an echocardiogram to assess the heart’s health.
Myocardial Perfusion Stress Test
This test uses a radiotracer to measure blood flow to the heart muscle while under stress, typically during an activity test. It generally evaluates blood flow and heart muscle function under stress. The stress can be due to exercise or medication. It particularly detects any coronary artery diseases as well as the impact of a heart attack on overall heart function.
